Google’s Password Manager now offers a new feature that allows users to share passwords with family members, according to a report by Android Authority.
This feature, which enables secure password sharing within a family group, was detailed by Google in a recent support document.
“With this new feature, you can now securely share your passwords with your family group in Google Password Manager. When you share a password, your family members will receive a copy of it in their Google Password Manager, ready to be used,” Google stated.
Initially announced in February 2024 during Safer Internet Day, the password-sharing feature is now being rolled out as part of the May 2024 Google Play Services update, version 24.20.
To use this feature, users must create a family group and add members to it, as the sharing option is restricted to family groups only.
For those with a family group set up, a “share” button will appear in Google’s Password Manager, facilitating the password-sharing process. However, Android Authority noted that this feature might not yet be available in the desktop version of Chrome.
Google has highlighted potential use cases for this feature, such as two family members coordinating with a daycare through a single account or a child allowing a parent to access their school assignments.
