Google contributed $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, aligning with other major tech companies aiming to establish goodwill with the new administration.
This was disclosed in a statement by Google’s global head of government affairs and public policy, Karan Bhatia, according to CNBC.
“Google is pleased to support the 2025 inauguration, with a livestream on YouTube and a direct link on our homepage. We’re also donating to the inaugural committee,” Bhatia said.
The company made its donation on Monday.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Meta each announced $1 million contributions to the inaugural fund late last year, while Amazon and Apple CEO Tim Cook have also reportedly made donations.
After winning a U.S. presidential election, the candidate appoints an inaugural committee to organize and fund events such as opening ceremonies, galas, and the parade.
Unlike campaign contributions, there are no limits on how much individuals, corporations, or labor groups can donate to an inaugural committee.
A Google spokesperson stated that the company has donated to past inaugurations and that features like the YouTube livestream and a link to the inauguration on Google’s homepage are consistent with previous practices.
