Google has officially begun rolling out its Gemini AI assistant to smartwatches running Wear OS 4 and above, the company announced on Wednesday.
The update arrives nearly two months after Google first teased Gemini’s arrival on wearable devices in May.
The rollout begins with devices from major brands including Pixel, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. With this move, Google is continuing its transition away from Google Assistant in favor of Gemini across all its hardware platforms.
Wear OS users can now access Gemini by saying, “Hey Google,” pressing and holding the side button, or tapping the Gemini app icon. The AI assistant can handle both everyday queries and more complex tasks. For instance, users can ask, “Do I need an umbrella today?” or request help with cooking instructions like, “How long should I roast sliced vegetables, and at what temperature?”
Gemini also supports multitasking across apps. Users can ask it to “Summarize my last email from Emily” or “Add my son’s baseball games to my calendar.” It can also remember notes and reminders, such as “Remember I parked on level 4, spot 27.”
Alongside the smartwatch update, Google is enhancing its Circle to Search feature — a tool that allows users to circle or highlight anything on their screen to launch a Google search. A new integration with Gemini’s AI Mode enables more advanced reasoning and follow-up questions directly within the search interface, eliminating the need to switch apps.
After initiating a visual search, users can now tap “Dive deeper with AI Mode” to explore further insights powered by AI Overviews. These responses are now better formatted, easier to read, and more visual.
Circle to Search is also gaining support for mobile gaming, allowing users to quickly identify characters or strategies mid-game. Additionally, AI Mode in Google Lens is now accessible via the Google app on both Android and iOS in the U.S. and India.
In a final perk, Google announced that Pixel 9 Pro owners will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Google AI Pro, which includes access to Veo 3 — a tool that generates videos from text prompts with natural audio.
