Google has announced a new update to its Chrome browser on iOS, allowing users to easily switch between work and personal Google accounts without repeatedly signing in and out, a major usability and security upgrade for professionals using their mobile devices for both personal and professional tasks.
Previously, iOS users had to manually log out and log back in each time they wanted to access a different Google account. The new feature enables seamless account switching, with clear separation of data between accounts. “Chrome on iOS is now offering seamless account switching with data separation for managed accounts,” Google said in a blog post on Monday.
The new setup ensures that browsing data — including tabs, history, and passwords — remains within the scope of each account. For managed work accounts, this means organizational data is kept separate from personal activity on the same device, providing benefits for both users and IT administrators.
Google said the move reflects a broader shift in the workplace, where many companies are moving away from issuing company-owned phones. With employees increasingly relying on personal devices for work-related tasks, the update allows businesses to support a “bring your own device” model more securely.
When users first log in or switch to a managed Google account on Chrome, they’ll be greeted with an onboarding screen outlining how their organization handles data and how account separation works. IT teams retain control, including how pre-existing data is managed, and are notified when users enter a managed experience.
Additional enterprise features accompany the update. Chrome’s security reporting tools are now available on both Android and iOS, enabling organizations to route critical event data to the Google Admin console or external security systems.
Google also rolled out URL filtering on iOS, giving admins the ability to restrict access to categories such as unauthorized generative AI tools, and redirect users to approved services.
The improvements aim to give businesses more control while enhancing user experience — particularly in hybrid work environments.
