GM to launch Apple Music in chevy, cadillac cars

General Motors has reached an agreement with Apple to add the Apple Music app to Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles, beginning Monday through an over-the-air software update for owners.

The move brings one of Apple’s most popular services to GM’s newer models, which have lacked access to Apple apps since the automaker began phasing out the CarPlay phone projection system in 2023.

That decision sparked backlash online, with some buyers saying they would avoid GM vehicles without CarPlay, while third-party vendors sought workarounds using phone adapters to reconnect the feature.

Owners of older GM models will continue to have access to Apple CarPlay.

“I recognize that’s a hot button topic,” said Sterling Anderson, GM’s chief product officer. “I liked it for a very long time in vehicles that had inferior access to the applications and services that I cared about. That’s no longer true in the vehicles that we’ve removed it from.”

GM said the rollout will begin with Cadillac’s Vistiq and Escalade IQ electric vehicles and the CT5 sedan. On the Chevrolet side, Apple Music will first be added to the Equinox, Blazer and Silverado electric vehicles, as well as the Corvette, Tahoe and Suburban gasoline-powered models. Buick and GMC vehicles will receive access at a later date.

Customers will be able to stream music via GM’s OnStar Basics telematics system on all 2025 model-year and newer vehicles in the United States and Canada, at no extra cost for eight years from the date of purchase.

Some Cadillac models will also support Apple’s Spatial Audio, which plays music through multiple speakers to create a concert-hall-like listening experience.

The feature, powered by Dolby Atmos, requires Apple Music to be natively integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment and audio system.

“You can’t get this with CarPlay in any way,” Anderson said.
