Globacom has stated that it will continue to invest in innovative technology to meet the needs of its customers as it announced that it would celebrate its 20th anniversary on Tuesday.
The telco stated that since its inception in 2003, it has been committed to providing communications and digital services to its customers through the constant deployment of the latest technologies, in accordance with its corporate promise to build a robust fully integrated ICT network infrastructure that would consistently deliver value to its esteemed customers.
The corporation stated in a statement, “We will continue to be a catalyst for socioeconomic empowerment, not only in Nigeria, but also throughout Africa.” We will continue to invest heavily in new technology in order to exceed our customers’ expectations.”
Glo stated that one of its accomplishments in the telecoms sector was to reduce the cost of SIM cards from roughly N25,000 to about N200.
“The network also disappointed bookmakers by launching operations on a per second billing platform, which others had described as impossible to achieve for another five years,” it stated.
“Blackberry, Multimedia Messaging Service, Magic Plus, Glo Direct, Glo Fonepals, Africhat, Glo Mobile Internet, GloFleetmanager, M-Banking, and Glo Mobile Office are among the innovations Glo pioneered in Nigeria.” Glo was also the first to introduce 2.5G, 3G, and 4G LTE networks.
“It also built an international submarine cable, Glo 1, that connects West Africa directly to the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. It also connects 12 West African countries, including some that are landlocked.”
The company also noted that its success over the years was owing to the backing of millions of Nigerians. It also stated that it now has more than 61 million customers.
