Google was on Tuesday fined $2.2 million by French authorities for providing inaccurate search and app store results.

The US tech giant’s search engine lacks information on the factors used to rank results, according to the Competition, Consumer, and Anti-Fraud Office.

The watchdog claimed there were no justifications for the costs in the search results for tourist lodging.

The Google Play Store, it continued, also lacked details on payment information, dispute resolution processes, and the ranking rationale for results.

The store also did not provide consumers with explanations for not publishing their app reviews in the store.

According to the anti-fraud office, Google has since “corrected a portion of the sanctioned shortcoming.”

According to a Google spokeswoman, the business regrets that the adjustments were not taken into consideration by the agency.

“We have always been transparent with our users about how our products work,” the spokesman said, adding that it was open to working “constructively” with French and European regulators.
