The Olumide Osunsina Foundation has urged businesses, charitable foundations, and private citizens to work with the government at all levels to address Nigeria’s high youth unemployment rate.
The Punch reported that its Chairman, Olumide Osunsina, provided this advice during the foundation’s first Youth Skills Training Programme graduation ceremony for 18 participants, which took place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Osunsina, who was represented by the Director of the OOF, Desire Osunsina, asked the public sector and members of society to return their resources to improve the lives of underprivileged youths in the society.
He declared, “Our society has advanced to the point where you can no longer rely solely on the government. We have seen it and we know it: Nigerians with a heart for others should make time to assist others.
“Don’t keep everything to yourself. Many lives would be changed even if you donate 5% of all you have to charity.”
He urged everyone, young and old, to do what they can when they can while alive, healthy, and strong.”
The project manager for the foundation, Ayodeji Oriyomi, revealed that efforts were being made to connect and work together with organizations that prioritized activities for similar social action.
He claimed that out of 20 applications who were chosen, 18 graduates underwent and successfully finished a six-month intensive skills training program in four different vocational skills. They were awarded diplomas and startup equipment for their various vocational talents.
