A former Executive Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Haruna Musa, has been named Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Jaiz Bank Plc.
The Punch revealed that his appointment was announced in a corporate notice filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited.
The notification stated that Musa’s appointment will go into effect on Tuesday after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s permission is received.
Musa is a seasoned banker with more than 27 years of relevant experience in the financial sector.
Prior to being appointed as the official MD/CEO of Jaiz Bank Plc, Haruna worked for GT Bank for eight years as an Executive Director. Of his 27 years of banking expertise, 22 were spent working for Guaranty Trust Bank, which he held from March 2001 to October 2023.
Musa attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Bayero University in Kano, and Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He is presently enrolled in the last semester of Universiti Utara’s Ph.D. degree in Islamic Banking and Finance in Malaysia.
Haruna earned an MSc in Finance and Management at Cranfield University in 2008–2009. He graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration (1997–1998) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (1994–1995) from Bayero University, Kano. He graduated with a Bachelor of Agriculture from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1987.
Haruna joined the GT Bank board in October 2015 and was appointed Executive Director and Head of the Northeast and Public Sector Divisions in Abuja.
Additionally, from March 2015 to October 2023, he served as Chairman of the Board Audit Committee and Non-Executive Director of GT Bank (Cote D’Ivoire Ltd.), where he helped the bank come around from a loss position to steady profitability.
In addition, Musa holds an honorary membership in the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Bankers.
With Musa leading the bank, the bank expressed excitement about its future, saying, “We look forward to his dynamic leadership in driving Jaiz Bank to new heights.”
