No-code platform for creatives, acquired by Flutterwave in 2021, Disha is set to undergo a temporary shutdown effective March 31, 2024.
The decision to pause operations stems from the company’s desire to “reassess its goals and realign its mission to better serve the creative community.”
Despite underlining the temporary nature of the closure, Disha has not provided a specific date for reopening. In an official statement, Disha expressed its commitment to providing tools that propel creative endeavors forward and emphasized the critical nature of this pause in helping the company rethink its focus.
This temporary shutdown is the second instance of Disha halting its operations. In February 2021, just two years after its co-founders Evans Akanno, Rufus Oyemade, and Blessing Abeng established the no-code creator platform, Disha announced its intention to cease operations by December 2022, citing “shortfalls with the platform’s vision” as the reason. However, Flutterwave intervened in October 2021, acquiring Disha in an undisclosed deal. At the time of the acquisition, Disha boasted a monthly growth rate of approximately 100% and had amassed over 20,000 users while operating as a bootstrapped venture.
The acquisition not only expanded Flutterwave’s presence in the lucrative $100 billion creator economy but also strengthened Disha’s payment infrastructure. This enhancement allowed transactions in over 150 currencies across 34 countries.
With the impending shutdown, user access to accounts and stored data on Disha will be temporarily restricted. Over 100,000 creators, including content creators, influencers, artists, writers, and designers, leverage Disha’s tools to manage their online presence. Users have until the March 31 closure to migrate their files and data to alternative platforms, and existing subscription fees will be refunded.
