African payments unicorn, Flutterwave has hired six new executives from prestigious financial firms like Cash App, Paypal, and Western Union.
The employment comes after the exit of three finance executives from the company in November.
The CEO of the company, Gbenga Agboola, stated that the six executives’ vast expertise will support the company’s ability to continue growing sustainably. Combined, the six executives have worked for major financial institutions for at least 100 years.
Amaresh Mohan, the first African unicorn risk officer, had positions at major international banks like Citibank and Bank of America. He was a top shot at PayPal and Stripe as well.
As VP, of Global Expansion & Payment Partnerships, Steven Huynh, who has over 20 years of experience working for financial organizations like Wyre, which recently shut down, and Binance.US, will join the company.
Executive Vice President of Global Expansion and Payment Partnerships Stephen Cheng joins the organization as well with Amanda Ortega, Head of Compliance, US, after serving as a regulator for the Division of Banking in the State of Wyoming. Chris David from Cash App is the new Vice President of Compliance and risk Operations for the company.
Adewale Ayantoye, formerly employed by Etsy, an American online retailer is the only Nigerian on the list. He becomes VP of Risk Management at Flutterwave.
Flutterwave has a history of expanding internationally and bolstering these efforts with foreign workers. Jimmy Ku was appointed Head of US Growth in 2021 as part of its strategy to provide payment services to US-based clients, local businesses, and corporations.
Ku has over 17 years of consulting, entrepreneurial, and investment expertise. He has co-founded five firms. The appointment comes after the company this month disclosed that it had acquired money transfer licenses in 13 US states.
