The Red Cross Society of China has donated 1,000 family kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to support communities affected by recent flooding across Nigeria.
The handover ceremony took place at the Nigerian Red Cross Society National Headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant humanitarian collaboration between the two countries.
Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Zhou Hongyou, stated that the donation reflects China’s solidarity with Nigeria during challenging times caused by severe floods.
“Recent floods have caused tragic loss of life and property damage in Nigeria. We extend our condolences to affected families and communities impacted by this disaster,” Hongyou said, emphasizing China’s commitment to humanitarian cooperation and people-centered development.
The donation aims to support flood victims in Niger State and other hard-hit areas. Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Dr. Abubakar Kende, hailed China’s generous support, assuring that the relief materials would reach those most in need.
“We thank China and its Red Cross Society for their ongoing solidarity,” Kende said, inviting Chinese officials to visit flood-affected communities in Makwa, Niger State, to assess the impact.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society plays a crucial role in complementing government disaster response efforts.
This donation comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with severe flooding, which has affected over 1.2 million people and claimed over 300 lives across 31 states.
The country’s vulnerability to seasonal flooding highlights the need for coordinated disaster response and resilient infrastructure.
