The Chief Executive Officer of Smart Gas, Dr. Yinka Opeke, has said that her organization is pushing a “Gas for Trash” campaign with the intention of promoting environmental cleanliness and constructing a sustainable society.
The Punch reported that Opeke mentioned this recently in Mushin, Lagos, while addressing community chiefs, business executives, women, families, and children in the Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA neighborhood.
She said that the “Trash for Gas” campaign exemplifies the concrete steps we are taking to support our operations and is in line with our company’s environmental, social, and governance values.”
She mentioned that this community project had benefited over 650 people.
“We hope that this incident will act as a wake-up call for all of us to realize the harm we are exposing ourselves to by polluting our environment and using firewood and charcoal.
“Our environment is our collective responsibility, and we must be intentional about how we take care of it because when we do, we are the first beneficiaries of a safer and healthier community. We are aware that some of us believe the government has the sole responsibility of ensuring we live in a clean environment,” Opeke said.
