A major fire erupted Thursday night at Chevron’s El Segundo oil refinery in California, one of the largest refineries on the United States West Coast, following reports of an explosion.
Chevron confirmed on Friday that no injuries were reported. The company’s fire department and local emergency services are actively responding to the blaze, according to CNBC.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
“All refinery personnel and contractors have been accounted for and there are no injuries,” Chevron said in a statement.
“No evacuation orders for area residents have been put in place by emergency response agencies monitoring the incident, and no exceedances have been detected by the facilities fence line monitoring system.”
Chevron’s El Segundo refinery, which can process 290,000 barrels of crude oil daily, primarily produces gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel, according to the company’s website.
