The Federal Government, through the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UTEL Ltd.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the National Talent Export Programme, Dr. Femi Adeluyi, on Tuesday in Abuja, according to Nairametrics.
NATEP aims to give Nigerians access to jobs in Kuwait and Gulf Cooperation Council countries through this initiative.
This is an important step in Nigeria’s efforts to ensure quality employment opportunities for its citizens.
It is expected that this initiative will facilitate the direct employment of Nigerian workers, as well as make it possible to use a business process outsourcing model known as Business Process Outsourcing for Nigeria and other countries.
The partnership with UTEL Ltd is in line with the Federal Government’s strategy of promoting mutually beneficial international cooperation,
This initiative aims to provide a structured and reliable route for Nigerian talent to work in other countries, to prevent irregular migration.
In the course of the ceremony, it was announced that 250 foreign jobs are now available to Nigerians, highlighting the commitment of the Federal Government to improve employment opportunities through global partnerships.
The MoU outlines a “1+2” approach, where for every Nigerian selected for a foreign job, the partners will also connect an outsourced role to the Nigerian BPO ecosystem and support the training of another Nigerian to strengthen the local workforce.
The statement read “The signing of the MoU marks another milestone in our efforts to ensure that Nigerians have access to quality employment opportunities. These employment opportunities could be direct employment and emigration of our talent or utilisation of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) model for gainful and meaningful employment for those based in Nigeria. Through NATEP, Nigeria can honourably export her talents in a mutually beneficial and reputation-preserving way, putting an end to illegal migration and the embarrassment therefrom to the country.
“The MoU was signed with UTEL Ltd, a Nigerian subsidiary of Unique Agency Kuwait- a leading provider of expatriate employees for the government agencies and departments in the State of Kuwait. The partnership with UTEL to aggregate foreign jobs for Nigerians from Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This is in line with the Federal Government’s aim to forge mutually beneficial partnerships with nations and global institutions to facilitate the provision of jobs for Nigerians. During the ceremony, an announcement was made about openings for two hundred and fifty (250) foreign jobs for Nigerians.”
