The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has stated that the 2024 budget will be submitted to the House of Assembly by the end of October.
The Government Integrated Financial Management Information System – Budget Preparation Sub-System will be used to prepare the 2024 budget, according to the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, who made this statement on Monday during training for personnel from ministries, departments, and agencies in Lagos.
Akabueze revealed that the budget office was working to make sure that the 2024 Budget was submitted to the National Assembly by the end of October. Akabueze was represented by the Director of Revenue and Fiscal Policy at the Budget Office of the Federation, Hapsatu Mormoni.
The training, according to the director general of the budget office, was designed to improve the ability of the budget staff as a whole to utilize the Budget Preparation Sub-System of the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System.
He urged the MDAs’ budget staff to understand the importance of their jobs and match their efforts to Nigerians’ ambitions and the administration’s plans for the nation’s growth.
“The administration of President Tinubu is firm in its commitment to fulfilling its promises to our citizens,” he declared. Therefore, we should continue to put our full attention into making the budget a real tool for fulfilling the government’s commitment to all Nigerians.
“Collaboration and synergy between the various MDAs are essential for achieving this. Our sectoral policies and strategies must be in line with the administration’s specific programs as well as the comprehensive National Development Plan 2021–2025.”
He claimed that this agenda lays out the strategy for attaining equitable socioeconomic growth, infrastructure development, and the general welfare of the population over the long term. “Therefore, it is required of us to incorporate the principles of this agenda into our jobs and responsibilities.”
He then asked the MDAs to carefully read the Budget Call Circular in order to prevent mistakes that would typically be prevented if they had followed the pertinent sections of the Circular.
He continued, “Emphasis will be placed in one of the modules this year on key items and sections to note in the 2024 FGN Budget Call Circular.”
