The Federal Government has announced plans to establish Renewed Hope Cities in four additional geopolitical zones and expand its Renewed Hope Estates initiative to 24 more states, as part of ongoing efforts to boost access to affordable housing across Nigeria.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, revealed the expansion during an inspection of the 2,000-unit Renewed Hope City project in Kano on Friday, July 25, 2025.
The update was shared in a statement published on the ministry’s website.
According to the minister, the new Cities will be sited in the North Central, South South, North East, and South East zones, adding to ongoing projects in Kano, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory, which have reached advanced stages of development.
In addition to the City projects, the government is constructing 250-unit Renewed Hope Estates in 12 states across all six geopolitical zones. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s housing programme, this will be scaled to cover 24 more states in the next phase of implementation.
“The federal government through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is currently constructing 250 units Renewed Hope estate in 12 states across the six geo- political zones of the country under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
“Provision is also being finalized to flag off construction of the same project in the remaining 24 states in order to make affordable housing available for Nigerians.
“Government is also constructing seven Renewed Hope Cities, one in each geo-political zone and FCT, with the Kano, Lagos and FCT cities in advanced stage, while the take off in the remaining four zones of north east, north central, south south and south east is in the offing,” the statement read in part.
Dangiwa also announced an August 2025 deadline for the completion of the 2,000-unit Renewed Hope City in Kano.
Earlier in the week, he stated that the 3,112-unit Karsana Renewed Hope City in Abuja remains on schedule for completion within the same timeframe, though its official commissioning may be delayed due to ongoing infrastructure works.
The minister assured contractors working on the Renewed Hope housing projects that all outstanding payments would be settled “as soon as practicable,” urging them to remain committed despite current delays.
The Renewed Hope Housing Programme features two key components.
The first, Renewed Hope Cities, are large-scale residential developments designed for each of the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.
These projects are delivered through a public-private partnership model, where private developers are responsible for financing, land acquisition, and infrastructure delivery—often funded through high-interest loans.
This financing structure tends to drive up the final selling price of the housing units.
