FG opens applications for Girls in ICT competition

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, opened the portal for applications for Nigerian girls to participate in its latest initiative called the National Girls in ICT Competition.

The Ministry announced this initiative, which is aimed at bridging the current gender gap in the ICT space in Nigeria, via a statement released on Tuesday.

“We invite all young, aspiring minds to register for this transformative competition, where girl empowerment meets technological excellence ” the statement said.

The Ministry has announced that competition winners will be awarded scholarships, laptops, trophies, and certificates from the government.

Moreover, the Ministry highlighted that the competition offers Nigerian girls a chance to sharpen their skills in coding, programming, web development, cybersecurity, and data analytics. Participants will gain recognition and support from various government bodies, educational institutions, and industry leaders.

The competition provides a platform for networking, and learning through workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events, enhancing the participants’ educational journey.

To take part, interested Nigerian girls should follow these steps:

1. Sign up for the competition via the registration portal: https://ngict.fmcide.gov.ng/ngict/

2. Form a team with the assistance of your teachers.

3. Identify a community issue and create a tech-based solution.

4. Attend a 5-day training program in various states to improve your technical skills.

5. Compete in regional contests to progress to the national level.

6. Present your innovative solution in a virtual pitch competition judged by experts.

Successful participants will be awarded certificates, prizes, and further educational and developmental opportunities.
