The Federal Government has unveiled the National Broadband Alliance for the country, an initiative to expedite the country’s digital transformation and promote broadband development and adoption.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The minister emphasized how crucial it is to upgrade infrastructure connectivity to promote economic growth and prosperity.
“As we work towards accelerating our collective prosperity as a nation, improving our connectivity infrastructure is a critical part of our plans as a government,” he said.
Nigeria’s broadband penetration is currently at 43.53 per cent, with significant gaps in fibre network access.
The new proposed National Broadband Plan seeks to achieve 70% internet access by 2025 in an effort to close the digital gap.
According to the minister, the NBAN is designed to encourage collaboration among stakeholders in the broadband ecosystem, including government agencies, private sector operators, and civil society organizations.
According to Tijani, the government wants to boost demand and put Nigeria at the forefront of the global digital scene by enhancing the quality and availability of broadband.
The minister noted that the NBAN will play a crucial role in achieving this goal, saying, “As we improve the quality and supply of broadband, we are also creating ways to increase demand.”
The government’s goal of a digitally changed Nigeria is realised with the inauguration of the NBAN, which the Tijani stated would positively affect the nation’s economic growth and competitiveness.
