The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Digital Bridge Institute Certificate Licensing Programme to address the nation’s digital skills gap.
Unveiled on March 4, 2025, at DBI’s Lagos campus, the initiative aims to provide individuals with globally recognized ICT certifications, enhancing employability and bolstering Nigeria’s digital economy.
The President and Chief Executive Officer of DBI, David Daser, highlighted the programme’s importance in addressing the country’s growing demand for digital expertise.
“This marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s efforts to equip its citizens with the necessary skills to thrive in the modern economy. We are creating pathways for growth, empowering individuals, and positioning Nigeria as a leader in the global digital space,” Daser stated.
The Digital Bridge Institute, established by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is a leading institution in ICT education and capacity building in Nigeria. It partners with global tech companies like Cisco, Microsoft, and Huawei to offer training in telecommunications, cybersecurity, AI, cloud computing, and networking.
A statement on Tuesday emphasized that DBI’s partnerships with Cisco, Microsoft, and Huawei enable it to provide world-class training that aligns with international standards.
The urgency of this initiative is driven by alarming statistics on Nigeria’s digital skills gap, with millions lacking the necessary competencies for the evolving digital economy.

The urgency of this initiative is driven by alarming statistics on Nigeria’s digital skills gap, with millions lacking the necessary competencies for the evolving digital economy.
DBI aims to bridge this gap by equipping individuals and organizations with cutting-edge ICT skills, ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in the global tech landscape.
The statement further noted that the newly launched Global Certification and Training Partnership Programme (GTP/GCP) aims to close the digital skills gap by licensing DBI’s training programs to institutions and trainers across Nigeria.
This initiative ensures wider accessibility, particularly in underserved regions, equipping more Nigerians with internationally recognized ICT skills needed for the modern job market.
“This initiative is not just for Lagos; we are taking digital training to every corner of Nigeria,” Daser affirmed.
The programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic growth, job creation, and youth empowerment.
In his remark, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, praised the initiative, stating, “This programme ensures our youth are not left behind in the digital age.”
