The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched an initiative to train 1,000 Nigerians annually in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other cutting-edge technologies.

As part of Nigeria’s plan for digital transformation and leadership in Africa, Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima launched the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative on Tuesday in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, according to Nairametrics.

Shettima stated “We are not merely catching up with the rest of the world; we are poised to overtake them. This initiative offers its beneficiaries the chance to become part of a global workforce, driving innovation that will shape our future.”

He noted Jigawa State’s trailblazing role in the adoption of digital technologies referring to the event as “a homecoming ceremony for those who have eased our journey through the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

The Vice President also described the overarching goals of the federal government, stating “We are adopting this initiative across the nation to create a network of tech hubs that will power Nigeria’s economic growth for decades to come.”

He praised the collaboration with Gluwa, saying it is in line with President Tinubu’s plan to transform Nigeria’s digital technology industry.

He recognized Gluwa’s significant impact, even as he praised the firm for empowering Aella Microfinance Bank, resulting in the disbursement of over N100 billion to two million Nigerians.

Shettima further said “Our aspiration remains to transform Nigeria into a premier destination for technology outsourcing, creating a model that combines global expertise with local talent.”

Meanwhile, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi emphasized the significance of the project and called it a unique chance that is available to young people.

He urged the population to enter the digital world of ICT outsourcing and take advantage of all the advantages it has to offer, especially in terms of the chance to create jobs and support the expansion of the country’s economy.

He said “The State is blessed with hundreds of thousands of ICT-savvy and qualified youths in various fields of information and communication technology. This is courtesy of our very reputable Informatics Institute established more than two decades ago.”

The new initiative to train 1,000 Nigerians annually comes as one of the many programs the government has initiated to increase Nigeria’s capability in emerging technologies
