The Federal Government has pledged to address energy poverty through a high-level stakeholder forum focused on implementing the National Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative.
Set for July 8, 2025, the forum will be convened by the Federal Ministries of Power and Finance in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All, marking a significant step toward expanding energy access nationwide.
Tagged Mission 300, the initiative is spearheaded by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, with strong backing from The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL).
Aimed at connecting 300 million people across Africa to electricity by 2030, the project includes Nigeria among the twelve countries selected for the first phase. As part of its commitment, Nigeria has pledged to undertake bold reforms to expand energy access, scale up renewable energy, and attract private sector investment.
To drive this effort, the Federal Government has set up a high-level Compact Delivery and Monitoring Unit to oversee and coordinate the achievement of Mission 300 targets.
Through the Stakeholder Forum, the unit will convene senior government officials, development partners, and private sector leaders to foster coordinated action, attract investment, and highlight progress on Nigeria’s National Energy Compact, which was launched at the Dar es Salaam Energy Summit in January 2025.
The compact outlines clear, investable targets: doubling the annual electricity access growth rate from 4 to 9 per cent and increasing access to clean cooking solutions from 22 to 25 per cent per year.
