Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is working with law enforcement agencies across the world, including the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Secret Service, following a record $6.3bn theft from the platform.
A person familiar with the matter disclosed the collaboration, saying the exchange was engaging with authorities to investigate the incident and support efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the massive cryptocurrency theft, according to Reuters.
The FBI confirmed that it was aware of the incident and had begun engaging with relevant public and private sector partners to understand the scale of the activity.
In a statement, the agency said its efforts included assessing potential impacts and coordinating appropriate investigative steps with the organisations involved.
The investigation adds to growing concerns about cybersecurity risks in the cryptocurrency industry, where major exchanges remain potential targets for sophisticated hacking operations.
The $6.3bn theft is the highest in history.
