Facebook and Instagram, owned by Meta, on Tuesday, both were restored after experiencing a disruption lasting over two hours, affecting millions of users worldwide.
The technical issue began around 10 a.m. ET (1500 GMT), causing users to report difficulties accessing and logging into both platforms on alternative social media sites like X. The
White House National Security Council monitored the incident, stating there was no knowledge of specific malicious cyber activity at that time. At its peak, the outage prompted over 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and around 92,000 for Instagram, according to Downdetector.com.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the technical issue on X, indicating it had been resolved for all impacted users without providing further details.
