FAAN flags off rehabilitation of Lagos airport terminal

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has announced the commencement of reconstruction works at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

In a travel advisory issued on Friday, the agency advised passengers to set out early to the airport to avoid missing their flights.

“To ensure a smooth travel experience, we kindly request that passengers leave early for the airport to avoid missing flights, obey all traffic instructions to aid traffic flow, park vehicles properly in designated car park areas,” the authority said.

FAAN added that, due to limited space during the reconstruction period, only passengers should come to the airport.

“We appreciate your cooperation and understanding,” FAAN added.

On August 1, the Federal Executive Council approved contracts valued at over N900 billion for infrastructure upgrades across Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, while announcing the approvals, said the major highlight is the comprehensive rehabilitation, upgrade, and modernisation of Terminal One at Lagos’ MMIA.

According to him, the project will entail dismantling the terminal to its core structure and completely rebuilding its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Keyamo further disclosed that the rehabilitation of the Lagos airport will cost N712.25 billion and is expected to be completed within 22 months.
