The former Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello, advocated for licensed customs agents and freight forwarders to adopt technology in order to guarantee the sector’s expansion.
The Punch reported that Bello made this statement in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, during the Association of Nigerian Licenced Customs Agents’ inauguration of its newly elected executive members.
He lamented the fact that in this day and age, agents still carry out their transactions manually.
Bello further exhorted the certified agents to make sure that their charges weren’t made without cause.
“In order to use computers for business, we must embrace technology. In this regard, it is unfortunate that agents in this day and age still handle their business manually. We must send documents to shipping companies via technology rather than by hand. Therefore, the secret to this profession’s growth is to embrace technology.
The newly elected ANLCA president, Emenike Nwokeoji, had earlier declared, “The election marked the end of the crisis in ANLCA.” The association will always be appreciative of the contributions made by certain people and organizations to maintain peace.
“This incident demonstrates the association’s resurgence. It’s time for us to get together and discuss a fresh, pertinent course of relevance for the association.
Other sister associations should band together and let us work together to save the profession from people posing as agents,” he added.
