Ex-Filmhouse MD Moses Babatope launches new entertainment company

A renowned figure in the Nigerian film industry, Moses Babatope, has officially launched Nile Media Entertainment Group, a new production and distribution studio set to revolutionize African cinema.

Named after the iconic River Nile, the company aims to elevate cultural representation, industry standards, and sustainable practices within the sector.

Babatope, a co-founder of FilmHouse Group and managing director of FilmOne Entertainment, has played a crucial role in bringing African films to international audiences. His latest venture, Nile Media Entertainment Group, comprises five distinct subsidiaries:

Nile Entertainment: A distribution arm handling both local and international markets.
Nile Cinemas: Specializing in luxury cinema experiences.
Nile Motion Pictures: Focused on producing Nollywood films.
Nile Studio Lab: A film village located in Nigeria.
Nile Foundation: The CSR division dedicated to community development through film.

Babatope has assembled a prominent, female-led executive team for Nile Media:

Biola Sokenu: As Executive Director and Group COO, Sokenu brings over 20 years of experience as a financial controller and production accountant in the U.K., Nigeria, and the U.S. Her previous roles include leading financial operations at Fleet River Productions Ltd and working on Netflix’s “The Diplomat” Season 2. Her extensive background also includes positions at AAA Entertainment, FilmOne Entertainment, and the BBC.

Lolu Desalu: Serving as Executive Director, Desalu has 18 years of experience in business strategy and brand building, with roles at NPower, Incisive Media, TimeInc. London, and most recently as Chief Marketing Officer at Filmhouse Group.

Abimbola Roli Craig: Appointed as VP of Production, Craig is a lawyer-turned-filmmaker who previously headed production at NdaniTV. She co-produced successful films such as “Sugar Rush” and “Real Housewives of Lagos,” and her Netflix production “Glamour Girls” was the first Nigerian film to reach the global top 10 list.

Bukky George Taylor: As VP of Nile X, the luxury cinema division, Taylor brings 17 years of strategic communications experience. She is the founder of Robert Taylor Media and co-founder of Crawl Africa, the continent’s first tourism app.

Nowekere Alexis C.I Segun-Ojo: Joining as GM of Distribution and Marketing, Segun-Ojo has over 13 years in public relations and brand strategy. Previously, as General Manager at Nile Entertainment, she was instrumental in executing successful campaigns for both local and international films.

With more than 20 years in the industry, Babatope has produced and executive produced over 40 Nollywood titles. He has previously secured distribution deals with major platforms like Disney, Netflix, Prime Video, and Warner Brothers through FilmOne Entertainment.
