Ex-British PM urged to return thousands in fashion discounts

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, was urged to repay thousands of pounds in designer clothing discounts, newly released records show.

Documents submitted to the National Archives reveal that Downing Street officials advised Sir Blair to return over £7,600 for purchases made from designers Nicole Farhi and Paul Smith, according to Sky News.

The discounts were arranged by Carole Caplin, Mrs Blair’s style adviser and lifestyle coach.

Caplin claimed the savings—up to 60%—were due to her buying the items at wholesale prices.

However, officials raised concerns that such steep discounts were not typically available to the general public.

Between July 2001 and December 2002, the Blairs spent £8,021.50 with designer Nicole Farhi, though the retail value of the items was £20,855.

In total, the couple received £12,833.50 in discounts—more than the amount they actually spent on the clothes.
