Epic Games drops antitrust lawsuit against Samsung in app store dispute

EU probes Apple’s termination of Epic Games’ account

In a significant development in the mobile app ecosystem, Epic Games has withdrawn its legal claims against Samsung Electronics, just days before the tech giant’s highly anticipated Samsung Unpacked event on July 9, 2025.

The settlement comes nearly a year after Epic filed a lawsuit in September 2024, accusing Samsung of colluding with Google to maintain an illegal app store monopoly.

Epic’s lawsuit alleged that Samsung’s “Auto Blocker” feature, enabled by default on Samsung Android devices, unfairly restricted users from installing apps from unauthorized third-party stores, including Epic’s own mobile app store.

The feature was said to stifle competition and reinforce Google’s dominance in the Android app market, following Epic’s earlier legal victory against Google for similar monopolistic practices.

While Epic Games did not disclose the terms of the settlement, CEO Tim Sweeney hinted on X that the company secured assurances from Samsung, though specifics remain undisclosed.

“We’re dismissing our court case against Samsung following the parties’ discussions. We are grateful that Samsung will address Epic’s concerns,” he posted.

The resolution marks a strategic pivot for Epic as it continues to challenge app store policies across major platforms.

The timing of the settlement, just ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked event where new devices are expected to be unveiled, has sparked speculation about potential changes to Samsung’s app installation policies or partnerships.

Neither Samsung nor Epic has commented further on the matter.
