Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has moved into the former headquarters of OpenAI. This transition highlights the area’s emerging status as a hub for top-tier AI companies.

According to the San Francisco Business Times, Musk’s legal team stated in a lawsuit that he initially leased the office during his tenure at OpenAI and has continued to cover the costs since. In August, Musk put the building up for sublease as OpenAI relocated to a new space just four blocks away.

On Tuesday evening, xAI held an open house at its new location, coinciding with OpenAI’s DevDay event. Employees from xAI mentioned that although they had just moved in on Monday, they would primarily operate from their Palo Alto office.

While Musk has announced plans to relocate many of his companies from California to Texas, xAI appears to remain in San Francisco for the time being.
