Elon Musk’s X targeted in French cyber-crime probe

The Paris prosecutor’s cyber-crime unit has raided the French offices of Elon Musk’s X as part of an investigation into alleged offences, including unlawful data extraction and complicity in the possession of child pornography.

The prosecutor’s office also confirmed that both Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned to appear at hearings in April.

Responding on X, Musk described the raid as a “political attack.”

In a statement, the company said it was “disappointed” but “not surprised,” accusing the Paris Public Prosecutor’s office of an “abusive act.”

X denied any wrongdoing, warning that the raid “endangers free speech.”

The investigation, which began in January 2025 over content recommended by X’s algorithm, was expanded in July to include Musk’s controversial AI chatbot, Grok.

Yaccarino also took to X, accusing French prosecutors of conducting “a political vendetta against Americans.”

“To be clear: they are lying,” added Yaccarino.
