Musk's xAI tests standalone app for Grok chatbot

Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has rolled out a major new feature for its chatbot, Grok, introducing a collaborative workspace called Grok Studio that allows users to create and edit documents, code, and even browser-based games.

Announced late Tuesday on Musk’s social media platform X, Grok Studio is now live on Grok.com for both free and paying users. The update brings Grok in line with competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, both of which offer similar canvas-style environments for working on text and software projects.

“Grok can now generate documents, code, reports and browser games,” the official Grok account posted. “Grok Studio will open your content in a separate window, allowing both you and Grok to collaborate on the content together.”

The interface allows users to preview HTML, write and run code in languages such as Python, C++, and JavaScript, and manage files in a side-by-side view with Grok’s responses. While the functionality closely mirrors features already offered by rivals, the Studio’s integration with Google Drive may give it an edge in productivity.

Alongside the launch of Grok Studio, xAI also announced that Grok now supports file attachments from Google Drive, allowing users to work with documents, spreadsheets, and slides directly within prompts.

Grok’s latest updates mark a growing trend among AI companies to provide more interactive and practical tools within their chatbot platforms, turning them into full-fledged creative and coding environments.
