Social network, X, formerly known as Twitter has made it possible to make audio and video calls straight from the app to the Android client.
After an app update, Android users will be able to use the functionality, according to a post made by one of the X engineers working on the project.
CEO Linda Yaccarino originally discussed adding video conversations to the platform in August 2023, and in October, she finally made the feature available to iOS customers.
Notably, calls can be placed by any user, but only by paying users. It’s just one of the many features on X that are exclusive to paying customers. But earlier in, X took away the option for premium users to post an NFT as their profile photo early this month.
Calling is controllable by users via Settings > Privacy and safety > Direct Messages > Turn on both video and audio calling. Users may manage who can call them using the same menu, which includes contacts in their address book, users they follow, and verified users. From these possibilities, they can choose more than one.
X is still adamant about wanting to be a “everything app.” The firm unveiled its vision for 2024 earlier this month, which included the introduction of peer-to-peer payment, new xAI-powered features like “show dissimilar posts,” and other ad solutions for advertisers.
Advertisers are reportedly choosing to spend their money on LinkedIn instead of X after Musk reportedly ordered them to “go f*ck yourself” during an event in November 2023.
