Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed on Thursday that Grok 3, the latest version of his AI chatbot and a direct competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is in the final stages of development and set for release within the next two weeks.
Speaking via video call at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Musk touted Grok 3’s capabilities, claiming it outperforms existing AI models. “Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities. In the tests we’ve done so far, it is outperforming anything that’s been released, to our knowledge. That’s a good sign,” he said.
Musk founded xAI as a challenger to OpenAI—an AI research lab he co-founded but later parted ways with—as well as Alphabet’s Google. Earlier this week, a consortium of investors led by Musk made a $97.4 billion offer to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit assets, escalating his ongoing battle with the AI startup.
Beyond AI, Musk also addressed economic policy, claiming that the U.S. government could reduce spending by $1 trillion or more. He suggested that economic growth could reach “4 or 5% in terms of real useful goods and services output,” while government expenditures could be cut by “about 3 or 4% of the economy.” Musk argued that such measures would prevent inflation in 2025 and 2026.
Turning to international relations, Musk criticized U.S. foreign policy, stating that America has been “pushy” and should adopt a less interventionist approach. “I think we should, in general, leave other countries to their own business,” he told the audience in Dubai.
His remarks come amid controversy over former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about Gaza. Trump suggested the U.S. should take control of the territory, relocate its Palestinian inhabitants, and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East”—a statement that has sparked outrage in the Arab world.
During the summit, UAE AI Minister Omar Al Olama announced plans to collaborate with Musk on a project called “Dubai Loop”, an underground high-speed transport system that Musk likened to a “wormhole.” Al Olama provided no further details on the initiative.
As Musk continues to expand his influence across AI, transportation, and economic policy, his statements in Dubai signal his ongoing ambition to challenge major tech rivals, disrupt industries, and weigh in on global affairs.
