Elektron Energy, a developer and operator of embedded power infrastructure, has unveiled its Victoria Island Power project, a 40-megawatt embedded power network designed to deliver dedicated and more dependable electricity supply to businesses operating within one of Lagos’ upscale commercial districts.

The company recently opened the project to customers and business leaders at its Victoria Island Power Customer Experience Day, an event that gave stakeholders the opportunity to inspect the facility and receive technical briefings ahead of its commissioning.

The project, which is being developed in partnership with Eko Electricity Distribution Company and operates under a licence granted by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, combines power generation and distribution infrastructure to supply electricity directly to businesses across Victoria Island.

Speaking at the event, Ayomide Oladapo, Executive Director, Business Development at Elektron Energy, said the project was conceived to tackle the longstanding challenges businesses face as a result of unreliable grid supply and the high cost associated with self-generation.

“For years, businesses in Victoria Island have had to operate within the constraints of unreliable power, either absorbing the cost and complexity of self-generation or navigating the uncertainty of the grid,” he said.

“Neither model provides the predictability businesses need to plan, invest and grow with confidence.

“Victoria Island Power changes that equation. By delivering clean, dedicated, professionally managed electricity infrastructure, we are giving businesses access to reliable power without the burden of fuel logistics, generator maintenance or operational disruption.”

The 40MW facility will run on Wärtsilä engine technology, with the project team using the customer experience event to walk customers and business leaders through the technical details of the generation plant and its distribution network.

Mika Gummerus, Site Manager, Energy Services and Upgrade at Wärtsilä, said the project illustrated the significance of combining technical expertise with long-term infrastructure planning.

“Victoria Island Power shows what happens when the right technical expertise, infrastructure and long-term planning come together,” he said.
