Electricity users hit 1.78% to 12m in Q1 2024 – NBS

The overall number of billing consumers was 12.33 million in Q1’24, up 1.78 per cent from 12.12 million in the fourth quarter of 2023 (Q1’23).

The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed this in its Nigeria Electricity Report: Energy Billed, Revenue Generated, and Customers by DISCOS for the first quarter of 2024, according to Vanguard.

This represents a 5.38 per cent increase from 5.61 million in the previous quarter, Q4’23.

However, on a year-over-year basis, it climbed by 11.26 per cent from the 5.31 million reported in Q1 2023.

On a YoY basis, estimated customers increased by 7.88 per cent in Q1’24 from 5.96 million in Q1 2023.

DISCO revenue fell by 1.14 per cent to N291.62 billion in Q1’24, compared to N294.95 billion in Q4 2023.

On a YoY basis, revenue in the reference period, Q1’24, increased by 17.91 per cent from N247.33 billion recorded in Q1’23.

Electricity supply was 5,769.52 (Gwh) in Q1 2024 from 6,432.22 (Gwh) in the previous quarter. However, on a year-on-year basis, electricity supply decreased by 1.41 per cent compared to 5,851.87 (Gwh) reported in Q1 2023.
