Nikola Corp, a manufacturer of electric trucks, announced on Friday that president and CEO Michael Lohscheller will step down due to a family health concern.
According to a statement from the corporation, Lohscheller has decided to resign due to a family health issue and will be returning to Europe.
Board Chairman Steve Girsky, a former member of the GM board of directors and the CEO of the special purpose acquisition company that merged with Nikola to become it a publicly traded company, will take his place.
“The Board respects Michael’s decision to be with his family during this time and thanks him for his hard work, dedication, and contributions to Nikola,” Girsky said in a statement.
In March 2022, Lohscheller took over as president for Nikola. Only a few months later, the business declared he would succeed Mark Russell, who would officially retire in January 2023, as CEO.
Lohscheller served as the CEO of Opel and VinFast before joining Nikola. He also served as the CFO of the Volkswagen Group of America and Mitsubishi Motors Europe.
According to Nikola, he will continue as an advisor till the end of September.
