The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Committee, Mohammed Shehu, has stated that the condition of the economy will greatly determine the salary review of lawmakers, judges, and public officers.
According to The Punch, he claimed that the committee will do what is best for the country while doing the review.
Earlier, media sources stated that the commission recommended a 114% pay increase for political, judicial, and public office holders.
The RMAFC Chairman, Mohammad Shehu, was represented by a Federal Commissioner in the Commission, Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, who remarked on the salary increase when she presented the reports of the reviewed remuneration package to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, in Birnin Kebbi.
The RMAFC Public Relations Officer, Christian Nwachukwu, strongly denied Tanko-Ayuba’s allegation that the implementation of the reviewed compensation packages would begin on January 1, 2023.
The chairman’s representative observed that the action was by the clause of paragraph 32(d) of part 1 of the Third Schedule of the federal government’s 1999 constitution (as amended).
It was also stated that the panel was considering adding three new allowances for those holding judicial offices.
The President, Vice President, governors, deputy governors, ministers, commissioners, special advisers, legislators, and the holders of the offices mentioned in Sections 84 and 124 of this Constitution are among the political officeholders whose compensation is to be determined by RMAFC.
