The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the installation of electronic gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja is about 90% completed.

This disclosure was made by the minister via a post on his official X account on Friday.

Tunji-Ojo stated that he inspected the installation of the e-gates at the international airport in the Federal Capital Territory.

He said in the post “Today, I inspected the ongoing installation of electronic gates (e-Gates) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which is about 90% to completion.”

In addition, he said that the installation of e-Gates would be replicated in other airports, such as those in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, and Port Harcourt to ensure a seamless travel experience for Nigerians, in line with global best practices.

The Federal Government announced in December 2023 that it was planning to install electronic gates at selected airports across the country.

The Federal Government referred to the eGates technology as a modern border management system, aimed at enhancing security and facilitating passengers’ movements in and out of the country.
