The Ghanaian government has secured a deal with MultiChoice to upgrade DStv subscribers in the country to higher packages at no extra charge.
TechAfrica News reported Wednesday that Minister of Communications, Digital Technologies, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, disclosed the agreement on Tuesday following a committee review of DStv’s pricing structure and subscription patterns in Ghana.
He described the move as a “Ghana-only” initiative that will deliver between 33 per cent and 50 per cent more value to subscribers starting October 1.
“MultiChoice Africa has committed to implement an unprecedented increased value offer only in Ghana, and I repeat only in Ghana, which will result in Ghanaian DSTV subscribers getting more services for less,” George said.
“Depending on the package you use, subscribers will get between 33 per cent to 50 per cent more value.”
The report states that under the new plan, subscribers will be automatically upgraded to the next bouquet at no additional cost.
For example, subscribers on the Padi bouquet (GHS 59 or N7,057) will now be upgraded to the Access package (GHS 99 or N11,841), which includes 35 extra channels.
According to the report, Family package customers (GHS 190 or N22,726) will be moved up to Compact (GHS 380 or N45,453), gaining access to live football matches, while Compact Plus subscribers (GHS 570 or N68,179) will be upgraded to the flagship Premium bouquet (GHS 865 or N103,466).
The report added that Premium customers will also stand a chance to win all-expenses-paid trips to watch English Premier League matches.
In a statement, MultiChoice Ghana confirmed the rollout of the campaign under the theme “We Got You”, assuring that subscribers will enjoy more entertainment at no extra cost.
“There’s a whole new level of entertainment that is coming for DStv customers,” MultiChoice Ghana said.
“From 1 October, DStv Ghana will be upgrading customers at no extra cost. You’re not just paying your account – you’re unlocking more of the content you love. This means more channels, bigger entertainment, and access to the biggest matches, stories, and characters. No added fees. Just more for your money – because We Got You.”
The company explained that Access subscribers will be upgraded to Family, Family to Compact, Compact to Compact Plus, and Compact Plus to Premium—unlocking a wide variety of new channels, including Universal TV, Cartoon Network, BBC Lifestyle, SuperSport Champions League, M-Net Movies 3, DreamWorks, and M-Net.
