The electricity distribution providers will start handing out prepaid meters again this week as part of the Meter Assets Provides program.
The punch reported that this was stated by Ikeja Electric’s Head of Metering Team, Morenikeji Amosun, at a virtual stakeholders’ forum.
Amosun informed the attendees of the meeting that a fresh batch of meters had been imported as part of the initiative and that deployment would soon resume.
He further stated that before attending to new orders, the company would first clear its backlog of orders from roughly two to three months ago.
He asserted that energy users who had already paid the old pricing prior to the Nigerian Energy Regulatory Commission’s recently announced prices would have their meters read without further payment while fresh orders would attract new meter prices.
He continued, “We can promise you that MAPs has brought in replacement meters, and clients will start receiving their meters in the upcoming week and beyond.
“However, individuals who had ordered roughly two or three months prior at older prices would receive priority. There would be no further fees for individuals who had paid the old prices before they received their meters. But the new prices would apply to fresh orders.”
