Chat application Discord has laid off over 40 workers, or about 4% of its staff, as part of business restructuring efforts, according to reports.
Several former Discord workers shared the news of the layoffs on Twitter and LinkedIn.
The company issued a statement to Business Insider confirming the situation and emphasising its commitment to long-term growth.
“Discord can confirm that approximately 4% of our team have been let go as part of the reorganization of some business units, and we are ensuring that those impacted are being supported. We are focused on the long-term growth of the business and delivering on our mission,” a company spokesperson told Business Insider.
Discord released a Family Centre as an opt-in tool last month to provide parents and guardians more information about what their kids are doing on the app.
Additionally, the platform unveiled a function that enables users to instantly stream Xbox games to servers and DMs. Users can now ask Discord’s Clyde bot for advice during a group chat by using OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, which was added to the bot in March.
