The price of Automotive Gas Oil popularly known as Diesel rose by 55.90 per cent to N836.81 per litre from the cost N539.32 in 2022.
This was disclosed through a report titled “Automotive Gas Oil, Diesel Price Watch” by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics which also revealed prices across every state in the country.
Stating how the data was obtained NBS said more than 700 workers performed fieldwork in all states of the country with the help of supervisors who are monitored by internal and external observers.
The NBS collected fuel prices from over 10,000 respondents and outlets in all 774 local governments across the states and FCT.
The resulting figures represent the average prices for each state and the entire country.
The executive summary of the report reads, “The average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) paid by consumers increased by 55.90% on a year-on-year basis from a lower cost of N539.32 per litre recorded in the corresponding month of last year to a higher cost of N836.81 per litre in March 2023.”
The report states that there was an increase of 0.47% in March compared to February.
It states, “On a month-on-month basis, an increase of 0.47% was recorded from N836.91 in the preceding month of February to an average of N840.81 in March 2023. Looking at the variations in the State prices, the top three State with the highest average price of the product in March 2023 include Bauchi (N910.46), Abuja (N889.44) and Adamawa (N880.33).”
The report also revealed the states with the three lowest average diesel prices which are Bayelsa (N768.04), Katsina (N779.78) and Edo (N797.14).
The average cost of Diesel was also represented by region. According to this representation, the North East Zone has the most expensive price at N856.42.
On the other hand, the South South Zone has the lowest price at N816.92 compared to the other regions.
