Technology giant Dell informed its customers on Thursday of a data breach involving customer names and physical addresses.

Dell disclosed that it was investigating an incident concerning a Dell portal housing a database containing select customer information related to purchases, TechCrunch reported.

The breached data encompassed customer names, physical addresses, as well as Dell hardware and order details, including service tags, item descriptions, order dates, and associated warranty information. Dell did not specify whether the breach was the result of malicious activity or inadvertent error.

However, Dell reassured customers that the compromised data did not include email addresses, phone numbers, financial or payment details, or any highly sensitive customer information, thus mitigating potential risks.

In its communication, Dell downplayed the severity of the breach, asserting, “We believe there is not a significant risk to our customers given the type of information involved.”

AA Dell spokesperson, who opted to remain anonymous, declined to disclose additional information from the ongoing investigation without providing a reason.

Despite Dell’s reassurances, the incident underscores the ongoing challenges of data security and privacy in the digital age, prompting heightened scrutiny from both customers and regulators.
