Databricks, SAP partner to boost AI, data tools

Databricks and SAP are expanding their partnership to bring more artificial intelligence and data management tools to SAP customers.

The expanded collaboration will introduce four Databricks products to SAP Databricks: Genie, Lakeflow, Unity Gateway and Lakebase.

The companies announced the development on Friday during SAP’s TechEd conference in Berlin.

Launched in February 2025, SAP Databricks integrates Databricks’ data and AI capabilities into SAP’s Business Data Cloud.

The latest expansion will add four tools to the platform.

Genie is an AI assistant, while Lakeflow enables users to build data pipelines. Unity Gateway helps manage AI agents and control costs, while Lakebase provides database capabilities for AI applications.

SAP also unveiled its new Application Data Foundation, designed to make data from its business software more accessible.

However, the companies did not disclose when the new tools would become available.

Databricks also plans to integrate Genie with Joule, SAP’s AI assistant, allowing users to access responses directly within SAP software.

However, neither company disclosed a release date for the integration.

“Data is the foundation for enterprise AI,” said Philipp Herzig, SAP’s chief technology officer.

SAP also unveiled its Application Data Foundation, a new capability designed to make data stored in its business software more accessible, whether hosted in the cloud or on companies’ own servers.
