Dangote refinery to begin nationwide fuel distribution in August

Dangote Refinery loses N32.5bn after petrol price cut

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced plans to commence the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel starting August 15, 2025.

This marks a major milestone in transforming Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

To support the initiative, the company has deployed 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas-powered tankers.

Additionally, Dangote Refinery will provide free logistics support to registered petrol dealers, marketers, manufacturers, telecom companies, aviation operators, and other bulk fuel consumers.

This disclosure was made on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant national initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape.

“Effective 15th of August 2025, the Refinery will begin the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel to marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecoms firms, aviation, and other large users across the country, with free logistics to boost the distribution network,” the source read in part.

To ensure nationwide distribution, Dangote Refinery is deploying CNG daughter booster stations and mini hubs, supported by over 100 CNG-powered tankers. This strategy is expected to lower logistics costs, improve fuel access, and promote cleaner energy use across Nigeria.

The initiative aims to enhance fuel availability while ensuring affordability and sustainability. By cutting transport costs and reducing reliance on diesel, it supports price stability, fosters energy efficiency, and strengthens Nigeria’s economic resilience.

The initiative is expected to deliver wide-ranging economic benefits by reviving dormant petrol stations, lowering distribution and production costs, and stimulating job creation across the fuel supply chain.

The initiative will also support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises by easing their energy costs and significantly improving fuel access in underserved and rural communities.

These combined outcomes are expected to boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector and contribute to broader economic stability.

By lowering business operating costs, the refinery anticipates that the initiative will help reduce inflationary pressure and drive economic recovery, particularly in rural and economically vulnerable regions.

Under the new distribution programme, Dangote Refinery will offer direct sales to fuel marketers, manufacturers, telecom operators, and other major consumers. Petrol stations sourcing PMS or diesel directly from the refinery will also enjoy complimentary delivery services.

To support bulk buyers, the refinery has introduced a credit facility.

Companies purchasing at least 500,000 litres will qualify for an additional 500,000 litres on credit, repayable within two weeks, subject to a valid bank guarantee.
