The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the resumption of petrol sales in naira, barely a day after suspending the arrangement due to allocation concerns.
In a circular sent to oil marketers on Saturday, the company said the reversal followed the intervention of the Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee set up by the Federal Government.
“Following the intervention of the Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira commencing immediately,” the memo stated. It further directed marketers to “kindly proceed to place your orders in naira for both self-collection and free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country.”
The decision marks a quick turnaround from Friday’s notice in which the refinery disclosed plans to halt fuel sales in naira, citing the exhaustion of its naira-for-crude allocation. At the time, the refinery had explained: “Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has been selling petroleum products in excess of our naira-crude allocations, and consequently, we are unable to sustain PMS sales in naira going forward.”
The refinery’s decision to resume petrol sales in naira comes after the Federal Government’s intervention, providing relief to oil marketers and potentially stabilizing the fuel market.
