The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited delivered the fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude oil to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Monday.
The PUNCH reported that according to a statement from the $20 billion enterprise, the fifth crude oil cargo is expected soon.
The plant had previously received three shipments of crude oil, with business officials stating that the refinery would begin producing refined Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, and aviation fuel, or JetA1, this month.
“The fresh one million barrels of crude were the fourth consignment to be delivered to the Dangote facility out of the six million barrels of crude being expected by the world’s largest single-train refinery,” the company on Monday.
Managing Director, Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, had previously stated that the refinery would receive approximately four million crude oil shipments by the end of 2023.
According to him, the refinery will receive the last two by early January 2024, putting it in a position to commence production.
He explained that after the six million barrels were fully delivered, the refinery would be able to begin production of diesel, aviation fuel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas before moving on to the production of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol.
The Dangote refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, can supply 100% of Nigeria’s demand for refined petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, kerosene and jet fuel, and it also has a surplus of each of these products for export.
Dangote Refinery features a self-sufficient marine facility capable of handling the world’s largest vessel, from which it has received crude oil supplies.
After receiving the first cargo of crude, Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, stated, “We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is a significant accomplishment for our country since it displays our ability to create and implement huge capital projects.
“Our priority in the coming months will be to bring the refinery up to full capacity. I am looking forward to the next significant milestone, which will be the delivery of the first batch of products to the Nigerian market.”
