Dangote refinery denies reports of petrol processing unit shutdown

Dangote Refinery loses N32.5bn after petrol price cut

Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos State, has dismissed reports suggesting a shutdown of its petrol processing unit for maintenance.

The clarification follows a Bloomberg story claiming that the refinery’s gasoline-making unit was undergoing repairs, necessitating a temporary halt in operations.

A senior spokesperson for the company, categorically denied the claims, stating, “Loading of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) is ongoing as we speak.”

Bloomberg report had stated that the gasoline-making unit at the Dangote refinery was being repaired.

“A large fuel-production unit at Nigeria’s Dangote oil refinery is undergoing maintenance,” Bloomberg reports, quoting a person familiar with the matter.

In response to the claims that the residue fluid catalytic cracker was undergoing maintenance, the refinery denied the reports, insisting that the information was not true.

“It is not true. Don’t believe everything you see online. People can go to the refinery to check.

“The report is a lie. We are loading fuel every day. Millions of litres are being loaded on a daily basis. Go to the refinery there and see whether they are loading or not, and see how many trucks are leaving. We load millions of litres every day,” the spokesperson said.

The $20 billion refinery, Africa’s largest, plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s energy sector, aiming to reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel.
