The Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has described First Bank’s decision to build a massive new structure in Lagos’ rapidly developing Eko Atlantic city as a game-changer for Lagos’ financial landscape.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Dangote, commended the bank for setting a precedent that he believes will inspire other financial institutions to follow suit.

“This is a significant step, and First Bank has really demonstrated the heart of building this massive structure. I believe other banks will follow, but First Bank has been the first to roll the ball,” Dangote said.

Africa’s richest man expressed his admiration for First Bank Group’s decision to embark on the project that could redefine the city’s skyline and further boost its economic importance.

According to Dangote, the bold move by First Bank will serve as a catalyst for additional investments into the area, helping to transform Eko Atlantic into a new financial district.

While he admitted that he’s been “challenged” to join the project soon, Dangote emphasized his need for a break following the completion of his refinery.

He however expressed a strong commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

“I think I have been challenged also by Femi, that I should join him. I will soon, not now as I’m resting right now. I have just delivered the refinery and need some time to rest,” he stated.

Dangote also extended his congratulations to the bank’s new management and the Central Bank of Nigeria, whose support he credited as vital in making the project a reality.

It was earlier reported that First Bank of Nigeria has officially begun the construction of its new 40-story headquarters at Eko Atlantic City.

According to
a statement signed by the Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, the new building will become the tallest in Nigeria upon completion.

The event was graced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside Senators, State Governors, Federal Ministers, and industry leaders.

With a history spanning over 130 years, First Bank remains committed to innovation, customer-centricity, and sustainable business practices.
